How to measure ship based emissions in and around a port or terminal

Updated over a week ago

What is the Maritime Emissions Portal?

As a port or terminal, we know you’re facing increased stakeholder pressure to strengthen environmental measures, protect and preserve marine ecosystems and safeguard coastal communities’ health and wellbeing. To do this effectively, you need to be able to measure and manage emissions and air quality in and around your port.

At RightShip, we believe you cannot manage what you cannot measure.

That’s why we’ve launched a ports and terminals emissions tracker as the first building block in our ESG solution for the sector. This tracker - known as the Maritime Emissions Portal (MEP) - will help you develop clean air action and decarbonisation strategies over the next twenty years and beyond.

It’s made up of the following components:

  • Dashboard: Measures and reports on 14 emission types from all ocean-going and support vessels in your port.

  • Insights: Enables you to understand the root causes of pollution in your port.

  • Year-over-Year Comparison: Allows you to benchmark and track the progress of emission reduction targets in your port.

  • Emission Targets: An admin panel to set short- and long-term emissions targets for your port.

MEP is accessible from the side navigation menu of the RightShip platform. The product is customised with your logo and other informative content about your port.

The MEP home page shows a map of the port area, highlighting:

  • Port Study Area: A ‘geofenced’ port area shows where vessel-sourced emissions are measured.

Points of Interest: Locations of berths, terminals, anchorages, etc. are identified by the port as points of interest.
